Microsoft discourages advertisement

Seems like Microsoft is sending a strong message across through it’s new Windows Vista Boot screen, at least that’s what Paul Thurrott had to say to us in a short email session:

No, it’s because Microsoft was trying to convince BIOS, PC, and video card makers to reduce PC boot time by turning off unnecessary pre-boot advertisement screens, and this is their way of showing them how Windows can be minimalist as well and do its part to reduce boot time. By switching to this low-impact progress bar, Microsoft says it is reducing the boot time of Windows Vista by 6 seconds.

I think I like the idea…how about you?

Bypass WGA in Style

WGA is a pain in the butt for many of us. Even if we have a legal copy of windows it just makes us do things we don’t want to. So here is a solution for all you WGA haters out there :

1. Download Orca (remember to disable your pop-up blocker when on that page) and install it.
2. Open WindowsDefender.msi with Orca
3. Go to the “CustomAction” table on the left
4. Right-click on the “CHECK_WGA” action and select “Drop Row”
5. Now got to “Dialog” table on the left
6. Look for the dialog “CheckWGA”, change the Attribute from 2 to 0
7. File > Save (DO NOT use Save As…)
8. Close Orca and run the installer.

That’s it! Worked for you? Do drop us a line.

404 Meets Web 2.0

We all have seen the traditional 404 Page popup numerous number of times in IE and frankly speaking it was quite dry and boring uptill IE 6.0. Not anymore, seems like the good old 404 page has gotten a worthy facelift.

Among other thingsm we see the addition of the vista information icon as well as a blue gradient background. Javascript has also been incorporated into the new 404 Page to allow a neat and organized more information link.

What do you think? A well deserved upgrade?

4 Smart Features in IE7

The Firefox vs IE Bashing can go on for days on end but the truth of the fact is that both browsers have their own benifits and downfalls. Here is a list of four features in the recently released Internet Explorer v7 that I found to be quite useful and a probable dose of advice for future Firefox builds. Do note that I hold no bias against any of the two browsers:

Feature #1 : QuickTabs

QuickTabs

Now I know that there are a million and two extentions in firefox that will let you do this but the point is not that, the point is the useability of this feature and the fact that it should be a standard feature in Firefox aswell.

I found it espicially easy to navigate though my 20 odd tabs in quicktabs mode while doing research and it made the whole process much faster that your good ole’ Ctrl-Tab.
