There is an increasing debate in the tech community regarding the two innovative an revolutionary phone’s released in 2007. Both have similar GUI but different OS’s, both have similar functionality but different labels. Lets take a sensible and hopefully unbiased comparison of the two to clear things up.

The LG-KE850
From all the video’s and photos of this phone that I have seen on the internet I do find it similar to the iPhone BUT there are some vast differences between the two that I noticed:
- The LG has 3 buttons on the phone
- Runs a custom OS
- The UI seems fast based on the video demo’s but you can see the “choke ups” happen ever so often.
- Main navigation tabs on the right of the screen
- Scroll Bars
- No Home button
- 2MP Camera
- Simple MP3 Player
- Video Player (multi format)
- No Sensors
- Password Protection (login-type option)
Apple iPhone
From watching the demo’s at the Keynote and other video’s this is what I concluded about the iPhone:
- Only one button
- Runs OS-X
- Choke free UI
- Main navigation on the bottom
- Rubber-Band type scrolling
- One click home button
- 2MP Camera
- Advanced iPod with Album art and Flip 3D
- Video iPod
- 3 Sensors built into the phone
- Slide to unlock
I have not compared dimensions or storage capacities because they are not readily available right now.
What’s my verdict?
The battle on who copied who can go on forever. Truth is that great ideas don’t come to just one person or company. To be both phones showed good innovation and a promising future. It seems as though Apple had a similar concept but they pushed the envelope when it came to ideas and GUI rich features. The inclusion of sensors also made the iPhone have a leading edge.
Check out there two videos and compare the GUI yourself:
What do you think?
