Jailbreak & Unlock - iPhone 1.1.3

Here we go people! 1.1.3 is now achievable on your jailbroken/unlocked iPhone running firmware 1.1.1 or 1.1.2

It is recommended you uninstall ALL your previous applications on the iPhone before doing this upgrade since the application installation directory has changed in 1.1.3. Re-install them once on 1.1.3 to avoid errors and conflicts.

Note: This Jailbreak method is now outdated as Nate has not updated the issues with this method. Use this method as an alternative to this guide.

What you need:

- Download iBrickr Special 1.1.3 Jailbreak Edition from: here
- iPhone 1.1.3 Firmware

Step One
You must have a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed.

Step Two
Connect your iPhone to the computer

Step Three
Extract iBrickr 1.1.3 from the file(ibrickr-jb113.zip) we downloaded earlier. Make sure you extract it to the desktop!

Step Four
A folder will be extracted called ibrickr-jb113. If you have Vista/2000 from this folder right click ibrickr.exe then select properties from the popup menu. Otherwise if you have XP procede to Step 6.

Step Five
Click the Compatibility tab and check Run this program in compatibility mode for:. Then select Windows XP (Service Pack 2 from the drop down. Finally click the Apply button.

Step Six
Now double click ibrickr.exe to launch the application.

Step Seven
When iBrickr launches click the Check my phone! button.

Step Eight
You will get a message telling you which firmware version you are currently on. It will also let you know if your phone can be upgraded to 1.1.3 jailbroken. If it can, click the Do it button.

Step Nine
iBrickr will download the necessary files. You will then be presented with the option to find the 1.1.3 firmware on your disk or to download it from Apple. Click the Download it from Apple button or choose the find on disk option if you downloaded 1.1.3 earlier.

Step Ten
Once the firmware has been downloaded you will be prompted to confirm the beginning of installation. Click the Do you have to ask? button to continue.

Step Eleven
Again once everything is ready you will be asked to confirm installation. Click the Ready to go! button to begin.

Step Twelve
iBrickr has now completed its part of the job.

Step Thirteen
Press to launch Installer from the Springboard.

Step Fourteen
If you get prompted for an Installer Update click the Update Now button.

Step Fifteen
If Installer was updated click the Ok button.

Step Sixteen
Press to launch Installer from your Springboard again. (If you had to update).

Step Seventeen
If asked to Donate click the Donate Later button for now.

Step Eighteen
Press to select the Install tab at the bottom of the screen.

Step Nineteen
Press to select System from the list of Categories.

Step Twenty
Press to select 1.1.3 soft upgrade from the list of Packages.

Step Twenty One
Press the Install button at the top right of the screen.

Step Twenty Two
Press the large Install button that appears.

Your iPhone will install the Software Update package and then reboot. This takes a few minutes and it looks like the phone is stuck at the “installing package” bar and at the spinning circle later on, but do not touch the phone during this time it will reboot on its own when the process is done.

At reboot you get a “Edit Home Screen” message. Click the Dismiss button and you are now on 1.1.3:

After getting on 1.1.3 make sure you refresh the sources in installer and update installer and BSD subsystem ;)

Making “Locate Me” feature in Google app work:

Get into installer and install the “Locate Me” Application found under utilities. Run this app and once it finds your location your google maps then the locater in the app also starts to work. If you do a hard reboot of the phone then this gets reset and you have to run the installer locate me app again.

Hybrid View Now works by using the guide above:

Now for some housekeeping :

IF YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE THAT UPGRADED WITHOUT UNINSTALLING THEM FIRST AND NOW HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE APPS, FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Install MobileFinder (if you already had it, uninstall it and install again)
2) Launch MobileFinder from the springboard.
3) Tap “Settings” and turn on “System File Access”
4) Tap “Finder” then “Up”. You should be in the file system now.
5) Navigate to private/var/root/Library/Installer/ and delete LocalPackages.plist
6) Reinstall Community Sources, BSD subsystem and OpenSSH (The username is mobile and the password is alpine).
7) Reinstall the rest of your 3rd party apps.

Getting back some space:

You should also delete the 300+MB file (113_upgrade_image.bin) from /var/root/media/softupdate that was used during the jailbreak. SSH into your iPhone and delete that file. Alternatively you can also run the cleanup package that has recently shown up in installer under the system category ;)

Turning off SSH:

Once you are done using SSH, don’t forget to turn it off to save battery life. Download this app and use it to turn SSH on and off. To use it SSH into your phone and drop the extracted folder SSH.app into the applications directory.

Questions / problems while running the 1.1.3 soft upgrade from Installer:

I don’t see the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” package in my Installer.
Make sure you have the “Community Sources” package installed, and hit “Refresh” in the Sources tab. It should show up under “All packages”.

When I install the package, it says “Main script execution error”. When I hit OK it looks like it crashed.
This happens to some people, but it doesn’t appear to affect operation. Your phone should update in about 10 minutes and reboot by itself. If that doesn’t happen, you’ll need to restore and try again.

When I install the package, it completely crashes my phone with the progress bar at halfway.
This is normal. It’s updating your phone - don’t touch it! Just leave it plugged in and let it do its thing. It’s okay if your screen turns off too.

SO! I’ll let you know if it all works. Settle all your questions.

I have tried this, and run through the iBrickr part with no problems. However, the Installer does not list the soft upgrade. According to Finder the 113_upgrade_image.bin file is in ~/Media/softupgrade, but it doesn’t show up in Installer (I am on v3.0b3). Any ideas would be gratefully received.

I have downloaded the firmware update and I select “Find on disk” but it doesn’t ask me where the file is, it just goes straight onto the next part. I have “Download it from Apple” and waited while it installed on to iPhone and still no menu package…Any ideas?????

Thats because the unlock from 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 sticks when you follow this method. No need to run anySIM again ;)

For people having issues with not finding the package in installer, uninstall community sources and re-install it. Then Look under the System category in installer ;)

Okay, I found the fix for the Mainscript execution failed!

I started playing around in files.

Log into the phone using an FTP program. (I use Cyberduck on my Mac and WinSCP on my PC)

In your /private folder there are two more folders. /var and /etc

Go into /etc and there should be a file there called fstab
Open this in an editor. I did it on my PC using WinSCP (right clicking and using “Edit”). It opened in plain text so I assume TextEdit can open it as well.

The second line will probably read
“/dev/disk0s2 /private/var hfs rw,noexec 0 2″
Remove the “,noexec”
The line will now read
“dev/disk0s2 /private/var hfs rw 0 2″
(No quotations)
Save it or send it back overwriting it. (The file should have moved from something like 70 bytes to 65)

REBOOT THE PHONE!!!!

Go back to installer and badabang badaboom it installs.

I’m not sure about anything else yet…. I’m still in the middle of updating… but it’s gone farther than before… so I figured I’d post this…. I’ll be back if something else comes up.

If sim hacks like those worked in your previous 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 phones then they should work in this one as well.

I here offer all respect and appreciation to everyone who worked very hard to achieve a great unlocking to the iPhone.

I have followed all steps in here till #22, the phone had re-booted as expected, but never came back to life. The silver apple logo stayed on the screen for so long. I tried to re-boot it again and again.. but it never reached the OS stage.

I had to restore back to 1.0.2 then update as usual to 1.1.1

I am afraid now to re-try updating to 1.1.3 , it took me 4 hours to get everything back to my previous status.

Heres the procedure to go back from the boot-scrolling text-boot loop:

1. Put your iphone in the dock, with the USB cable disconnected from your computer.

2. Make sure the phone is off (The only way I got the phone to turn off is to hold the power button + the home button for like 15 seconds)

3. Once you know the phone is off, press and hold the HOME button then plug in the USB cable to your computer, keep holding the HOME button the whole time.

4. Next it should put It should now show the sync logo on your iphone and it should say “connect to itunes”.

5. Now restore your phone to 1.1.1, and you should be GOOD TO GO!

Good luck!!!

Also when i connect my phone to iTunes, it doesn’t detect it…but that could be my computer needing a restart, or maybe my itunes is too old?

My 1.1.1 jailbroken iPhone isn’t updating to 1.1.3 properly. I run iBrickr and it downloaded all the files, patched them, and uploaded them. It then says to run 1.1.3 soft upgrade (which is now at 2.0 instead of 1.0) I hit “install”, it downloads, then says “Your iPhone is not ready to upgrade. See “More Info”. So I click on “More Info”, but its just a blank page.

Anyone know how to get past this?

Oh yeah i just realized that too..

Im running 1.1.3 but my modem fiormware is still 04.02.13_G..

any explanation?

the new baseband has no unlock yet so this method upgrades the firmware but keeps the old baseband so that the unlock stays ;)

Thats why you saw the old baseband version

I had the same problem - Mainscript Execution fail - I followed Ben’s suggestion (using CyberDuck on a Mac):

Okay, I found the fix for the Mainscript execution failed!

I started playing around in files.

Log into the phone using an FTP program. (I use Cyberduck on my Mac and WinSCP on my PC)

In your /private folder there are two more folders. /var and /etc

Go into /etc and there should be a file there called fstab
Open this in an editor. I did it on my PC using WinSCP (right clicking and using “Edit”). It opened in plain text so I assume TextEdit can open it as well.

The second line will probably read
“/dev/disk0s2 /private/var hfs rw,noexec 0 2?
Remove the “,noexec”
The line will now read
“dev/disk0s2 /private/var hfs rw 0 2?
(No quotations)
Save it or send it back overwriting it. (The file should have moved from something like 70 bytes to 65)

REBOOT THE PHONE!!!!

Go back to installer and badabang badaboom it installs.

…and got the same result:

Big issue here,
Had someone use my method and had it work perfectly.

However on my OWN iPhone, I’m stuck on the apple logo during reboot.

Following the Master:

I restored to 1.1.1
Then to 1.0.2
Then back to 1.1.1 (1.1.2 didn’t work with it)
**Without installing Anysim**
From 1.1.1 to 1.1.3

THEN 1.1 anysim (the old one from i.unlock.no)
(Note that Installer.app won’t let you install AnySim 1.1)
**by installing BSD then SSH, then I dropped AnySim.app 1.1 on the Applications Folder (using CyberDuck), rebooted and ran it**
as for Ben, I got:
It said it failed, but I rebooted and just popped in my sim and it just worked.

WOO!WOO!
Thanks for the inspiration Ben!

Using this method, I now have an unlocked & 1.1.3 jailbroken iPhone.. the only problems I have are:

The EDGE icon won’t appear (it still works.. just doesnt display the E icon in the status bar at the top)

LocateMe won’t work… even inside the application from installer.. won’t work for some reason..

Any help would be appreciated..
Thanks

Update! After performing the install process for the second time (no mail. no incoming ring sound, no ring sound test, no EDGE) The mail problem appears to have disappeared - it’s now functional; the most annoying is that an incoming call only produces a vibration - no ringtone. Otherwise the phone is functional, and works on FarEastTone here in Taiwan. Looks like the silent switch has been turned off in software - anyone know how to fix that?
Cheers.

Jimev, I believe there is a fix available for the ringtone problem.. add the source “http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo”.

The fix is under “1.1.3 Tweaks” or similar.. it worked for me..

As for my problem of no EDGE, I am going to try this process again and see if it works for me.

Good luck.

Hi, IMPORTANT FOR ALL THAT HAVE THIS ERROR ” Main script execution error ”
this is a big thing, do not panic if you get this message ” Main script execution error “, is ok…just leave the phone like that and after 10 or 15 minutes press the home button….YOU DO NOT HAVE TO RESTORE AND DO IT AGAIN…so after you are on the home screen, stay for 1 minute and press the Installer button…then a spinning circle will come out for about 10 minutes max…and after thAT your phone will restart and you will be on 1.1.3!
SO DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME AND RESTORE YOU DON’T HAVE TO…GREAT RIGHT….I NOTICE THAT BY MISTAKE!!

Anyone know how to get past this?

i experienced the same problem. this is just easy. after jailbreaking 1.1.1, install the ibrickr. after installing soft upgrade.
when it says cannot ready to upgrade, simple TURN OFF-ON your iphone. no need to reinstall the 1.1.1 again. just run the ibrickr one more time and soft upgrade and you have 1.1.3!!!

I updated to 1.1.2 and jailbroke it and installed installer and all the updates to it and open ssh and and everything and updated using official 1.1.2 updater and it updates and reboots and goes to the main screen. And installer is there.. I click on it and it said to update installer again so I did and then when it reboots it takes me to a screen with a slide bar to the dial pad and itunes says it wont detect it and to take it to an apple store. So I do it again and I installed this time the sync fix and rebooted the phone and it did the same thing.. Is there anything anything to do.. come on this has to be easier then all this CRAP all the time… Why cant someone that honestly knows what they are doing make a fix and it work and people pay him or her everytime they want to update but at least they know it will work.. What can I do now… please email me and let me know… pdconner@comcast.net
