After the WWDC ‘08 Keynote, everyone wanted this iPhone game, it received almost as much hype as the iPhone itself. Super Monkey Ball from SEGA definitely has some good qualities, however it does have some bad qualities as well. First off, this game costs $9.99 which might be a little steep for some.
Super Monkey Ball sports some great graphics and almost proves itself as one of the best games created for the iPhone. There are over a 100 leves to play which means you might not get bored from this for a while.
So without further delay we would like to offer you the cracked version of this game. We would also like to inform you that this release has not been tested on jailbroken/unlocked iPhone’s running firmware 2.0 which is impossible at the moment for the lack of an unlock out there.
How do you install this game?
1. Make sure you are on firmware 2.0 with OpenSSH installed.
2. Download the Super Monkey Ball Cracked file and extract the .app folder from the archive to your desktop.
3. Create a folder called “Documents” in /var/mobile. Set the permissions to 777
4. Upload the .app folder extracted before to the /Applications folder and set permissions of ALL files inside to 777. Here is a video showing how to do this.
Reboot/Respring and Enjoy!
UPDATE: Haklabs has pioneered the iPhone App Hacking scene and we have developed permanent solutions for cracking all Appstore apps. The method mentioned above is now discontinued and will not possibly work; we still left it there as a reminder of our achievement for all our members and supporters 
The method on how to install cracked apps has been updated, here are the instructions:
So, how to install ipa files on an iPhone or iPod Touch?
1. You need to be on jailbroken iPhone with Cydia installed. For this, you may use QuickPwn, PwnageTool, or WinPwn. See my tutorials for on how to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch using any of these tools.
2. Install OpenSSH from Cydia on your iPhone. Click on Cydia and then click Install (Sections)>Networking>OpenSSH then click Install>Confirm (if you get a running out of disk space error click “ok”).
3. Log into WinSCP. The first time you try to login you may get a connection timeout error, click retry several times (up to 20 times!) and it should work. If you still get an error, reboot your iPod/iPhone and try again.
4. Navigate to /private/var/mobile/ folder
5. Set the permission of the Applications folder to 777 (make sure reclusive is checked).
6. Stay in the /private/var/mobile/ folder.
7. Create a folder called “Documents” in the /private/var/mobile/ folder. Make sure to spell “Documents” correctly, with a capital “D”.
8. Set the permission to 777.
9. Navigate to the root level and open the /Applications folder.
10. Create a folder called “Documents” inside the /Applications folder and set permission to 777.
*Note: You will only need to create these two Documents folders once*
11. Go to <root> /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework
12. Rename the file “MobileInstallation” to “MobileInstallation.bak”
13. Download the patched MobileInstallation file. Note that you have to download the patched file for the firmware you are running. ie. if you are running 2.2, you need the MobileInstallation 2.2 patched file.
14. Place the patched file into the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework folder and set the permissions 775 for the patched MobileInstallation file. If there is some type of extension (ie .dylib), then you need to remove that extension.
15. Reboot your iPhone/iPod Touch
16. Download cracked api Games and Apps from appulo.us or any site you prefer.
17. Download at least one App from Apple App Store (Free or Paid). What I do is I download one app from the App Store using iTunes, then I sync my iPhone and reboot it. Then I download one app from the App Store on the iPhone and reboot the phone. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: Otherwise you will get an error! [Only need to do this once]
18. Drag and drop the .ipa file you downloaded into the iTunes Application library.
19. Sync your iPhone/iPod Touch and enjoy!
Errors:
The application “XXXXXXX” cannot be opened
Fix: Reboot your iPhone or iPod
0xE800001 Error:
FIX: Change usb port and reboot your iphone/ipod Touch.
If this doesn’t work try going into: Control panel->System->Device Manager->Universal Serie Bus Controller->Right click Apple Mobile Device USB Driver and update driver.
0xE800013 Error:
You get this error when you already have the app
FIX: Simply delete the .app folder that u have ssh’d and reboot.

if you are talking about drop it into itunes then sync, it doesn’t work. error message: “the app. “monkey ball”was not installed on the ipod b/c you are not authorized for it on this computer”

i have a suspicion that the “Board Administrator” could be a person posing as it…however i am not sure how to verify their identity if it is the real one or another person posing as the administrator…also i realized that the email adress is phony…if you go in itunes and click “forgot password?” you will see that “The Apple ID specified does not exist.” meaning that the email address is phony and probably won’t work unless the real administrator or anyone will post their real email.

Sorry for the trouble guys, Here is a possible solution :
1. Open the .ipa file using WinRAR
2. Next you will see a file named “iTunesMetadata.plist”. Open this file using notepad.
3. Replace where it says “freefromhaklabs@emailqweq.com” with your iTunes store email address
4. For extra safety measures, change where it says “Price” from 9990 to 000.
5. Save the file and update the archive when prompted
6. Import it into iTunes, double click it, and enter your password. You can now register it on 5 more computers
Now try and install the app again, it should work this time hopefully.

ok, so i did all the steps above, including entering my password to authorize it, which it then gives me a message saying that i successfully authorized it, but then when i sync it to my ipod it says it was not added because i am not authorized to use it on this computer, but i did that step! any help?

replace the “.ipa” with “.zip” and you can extract it.
Once you have edited the plist archive the folder again as a .zip through Stuffit which you can then rename into “.ipa”.

Using a program like BetterZip will do the job. Rename it to .zip as before but don’t extract it. Just edit the plist and save it and rename the .zip back to .ipa.
However… I’m having the same problem as Nick with the authorization issue. I hope this can be resolved soon.

in principle, there must be some ways to crack, but we need the more skilled person

I just changed the file extension to .rar and opened it using StuffIt Archive Manager, extracted the .plist file, edited it using Plist Editor Pro (free on Apple’s website under developer tools), added the file back to the .rar archive and replaced the original, then change the extension back to .ipa.
I never compressed/decrompressed anything, because when I first tried that it gave an error saying that the file was not a valid application. This was probably due to the fact that the compression was different from that which was originally used. All you have to do is change the format in which the archive is read, then change it back.

Open the ip with WINRAR or whatever. Change the Monkey Ball.app into lol.app…
Install the damn app on your phone/pod. After installing change the name in the ipa back to Monkey Ball.app.
Hit synchronize. It will say “bla bla not authorized” klick ok and then again synchronize.
The Monkey Ball App will install. Now its on your device.
….For me it crashes after the spash screen !!

If the apps keep crashing on the iphone its something to do with the springboard DRM. We need a patch for that, which will probably be easily recievable after a jailbreak. Just keep an eye on winpwn and the pwnage tool. Not sure if theres any other way but labrat will probably find it if there was.

If we can find a way to use the iPhone as a disk drive, we can go into the SpringBoard app and the :N54AP.plist” FILE may be the answer, because this file is the prefs file for the springboard, and we *could* change some parts of it to patch the SpringBoard.

thanks for the input David, the crack definitely needs some disassociation form the springboard. The plist files and .snif files are not the only ones we need to look at.
I hope the jailbreak for 2.0 comes soon since that would help test out some of my other theories….having no access to the root system is sorta paralyzing

somehow i had this idea that we need to somehow edit the app’s strings so that all the file names match up…aka…since David told me to change the Monkey Ball.app to whatever i felt like…i think since that is the main app…we need to change all the app’s programs and strings so that the app launches the that app with that name…otherwise the program behind the app will be trying to run “Monkey Ball.app” when it should be running the “nameofchangedapp.app” so does anyone know what file we should edit so it runs the rite file? i think this is why its crashing on us…

The plist refers to a single file in a folder, so it would not make a difference, as long as we don’t put any other files into the same directory.

I think we should put the actual app aside for a while and focus on cracking the stock apps now (i.e. SpringBoard/AppStore). The Super Monkey Ball app has already been through everything up until the splash, so we really should stop wasting our time on cracking the app, rather than cracking the OS system.

You cant play the game. Itunes generates a crypted file on the ipod/iphone. in this file every purchased or installed app is listed. this file gets decrypted through the device id. so you cant get monkey ball to run with that file from another ipod/iphone.
when pwnage tool will be released this check could be disabled or the device id could be changed.

Since we know that we also need to edit the sc_info folder first someone take the .sinf out adn replace with another and change couple things in it…. and if that doesnt work test with the .supp to find out which one is holding us back…than we can determine which part of the file and so on… its like elimination…..if you cahnge a part of a file and it alows you to put on ipod that god…you just have to figure out what u need to fix if it crashes!

After I compared two different monkeyball.ipa files given by 2 different sources, I found that there is no different between the two files except the email address. Based on the info i have, I guess that when you purchase applications/games from iTune, it will install some secrete code or signature in the buyer’s PC/notebook. To crack the applications or game, you need to create the secrete code or signature in your notebook/PC, so that iTune will think you have purchased the software and let you install monkey ball in your iPhone or iPod. Can somebody help me to verify this ?
Alternatively, need to wait until firmware 2.0 is jailbreak and we are able to copy the files into iPhone or iPod touch.
Hope my guess is correct.

1-Open iTunes.
2-From the Store menu, choose Deauthorize Computer (In earlier versions of iTunes access this from the Advanced menu).

I have Super Bomberman monkey ball and Bomberman touch.
To synchronize them in their ipod’s iphone’s make or so …
Open the file *. ipa with winrar
Payload Select the folder and rename the name of the application for lol.app
After that normally sync that it will be installed on your ipod!

I did some more tests and the name of the game inside the folder Payload can be changed in any way, for example, I changed the Bomberman Touch only for Bomberman and installed normally.

i have a paid copy of touchcopy which allows me to use my ipod touch as a disc drive and also back my stuff up from my touch, i got monkeyball to work buy just implanting it strait into my ipod through this and now i can play it…theres a forums with instructions how to do which i followed ill try find it again and post it here. hope this helps a lil.. :grin:

Yeah, it’ll help if we can actually ssh into the device. I’ve tried regis’s method again by renaming the folder, but I’m still coming up with the same error.
I considered the possibility of the actual mach-o file to have something to do with it. But since you can just copy and paste right into the Applications directory. I doubt the mach-o has anything to do with it.

Very strange, I’m running the trial of touchcopy. and it seems that all I can do is just view music/photos/etc.
when viewing files in touchcopy all I see is the media folder of the device. not the root of the device.

Returning to the subject.
I believe that the file ItunesMetadata.plist not have anything do with our problem that I put the two games in the ipod without making any amendment to it.
For it is easier, take the game Bomberman Touch.app and rename it to Bomberman.app do the same with Super Monkey Ball
Only at the games will be synchronized with your ipod’s and iphone’s.
I think this is another step for the alleged “hack” for these games.

Deauthorizing doesn’t change anything. I change the name of app and I was able to syncronize the game on my ipod touch. When I tap the application I just saw the splash screen and then the game shut down. It seems to be you are getting close to hack the game.

A few days ago I tried something similiar like shan said.
Instead of touch copy, I tried with Total Commander and the plugin T-PoT.wfx (it’s easy to find…).
That works for me before upgrading to 2.0
But now, like someone said, I only get access to de media folder, not the root, so I can’t transfer the apps. (That also happen with 1.1.4 if you don’t do de ACF2 Fix), but now I’m stuck!!!

I think we all need to wait for a jailbreak before we can get the apps on the iPhone/iPod Touch. A jailbreak basically unlocks the access to the root directory without which the only other way to install games right now is via iTunes.
iTunes seems to have its own authenticity checks when installing games which is why we are unable to sync them.

I’ve already purchased many applications on the App Store, albeit not Super Monkey Ball yet. But quite frankly, I do this because I enjoy it. Since Apple now has a “authorization” method now to synchronize applications it’s been a challenge to bypass it. As opposed to the traditional name and key method which some jailbroken applications tried to implement (which was very easy to reverse and bypass).
It’s not the $10 I mind paying for, it’s just that I would like to see how to bypass this method of checking validity and I don’t think Monkey Ball is worth $10 for the amount of time I’m going to be using it.

well Ramin…with pwnage 2.0 that means it allows us to jailbreak 2.0…potentially…as of right now i am having problems loading the hacked firmware on my ipod but im working on it…anyways…once we have pwnage 2.0 and jailbreak the 2.0 firmware, we can download OpenSSH. this allows us to transfer files back and forth between a mac/pc with and ipod touch given we have an ssh client (im on a mac so i use CyberDuck) and we can extract the SMB raw app and SSH it to the ipod application root folder and hopefully play it with needing authorization…

so for me i have failed to pwn my 2.0 ipod with pwnage 2.0…i have no clue why…everything goes ok when i pwn the firmware but when i put my ipod in recovery mode and install the pwned firmware…i got an “unknown error (6)” and blah blah about how the ipod cant be restored…so maybe its cuz its just out and more explanation is needed but the dev team says that more info will be released tomorrow…however i have nothing to do tonight so i might as well try to figure out how this works!!! any mac users out there that downloaded this and have a similar if not identical problem?!?!? this really sucks…so everytime i want to retry to install a pwned firmware i have to restore to the 5A347 2.0 version (which takes 10-15 mins) and then reinstall a pwned firmware that might not work and so on and so forth…

SSH has a lot of dropped connection problem is what I have seen. Keep trying to upload though…might be a free space issue too.

thanks labrat! i kinda thought about this too but how would i change the space? i mean when i pwned my ipod i saw in the pwnage tool in the General option that i could adjust partition size…should i change that to something larger? i am aware that low disk space warnings have been false in my past jailbreaking experiences (i have a lot of it)…anyone got any tips?
Edit: so i tried erasing the monkey ball.app folder from my ipod and tried to reupload…problem is im still stuck at 26MB and it says “Upload failed” could not upload some level and “no specific error code exists to describe the failure”…im confused…b4 this thing comes up its says like “getting permissions to upload randomfilehere”…

Hmm adjusting the size might solve it, but I would not change any default options right now since I don’t want your device to have any problems later on.
Do you remember what size was assigned to each partition?

the previous partition was 500mb but i changed it to a gig (1024mb) so i would most likely have more room for the whole app..however if i want to run more apps i need more space which could be a problem later on…but ill worry about that later…i want to know if its possible to get SMB on there first…

I believe there is some sort of archiving tool available via Cydia. 7zip or Tar or another variant. If you tarred this sucker, then sftped it to the iphone, then untarred it using the ever-so-handy mobileterminal on the phone, then users with shoddy wifi access (like me) would be able to speed up the process significantly.. currently i am getting 50,000 B/s..
Let’s use the processing power of that lil mini mac 
Anyways I’m at 20% now, guess will see how this hack works…

I have to say this.
I am using a 16gb 1st gen iphone.
I have read the instruction.
installed it for over 10x….but this is what i missed…
when it says change ALL files in the folders….to 0777…
means u go inside the monkey ball.app itself …
change all the files in there…to 0777…
and you know what…i have read , and read…but i fail to follow is the ( ALL file ) part.
go inside the folder…
change all the file permission to 0777…
and it works
works fine and works great…
games runs…
but 1 question….
why is it that i can’t choose harder level?

Set 0777 to monkey ball and 0777 to documents… transfered the app & reboted iphone all works fine =)

It works for me too. Just upload the .app folder to Applications dir.
Set permissions of 0755 to all files/dir.
Go /private/var/mobile dir. Create a dir Documents if not already there and set permissions of 0777. Restart your phone and it should work now.

and i set its permission to 0777
i copy the application in /Applications
and i set the permission of all FILES inside to 0777
it WORKS!!!

Anywho, the problem is this… you cannot install a cracked app thru iTunes onto a non-jailbroken phone or ipod. You have to apply a patch to the MobileInstallation file on your iphone/touch. The only way to do this is to have your device jailbroken. Good luck!

PENDING SOLUTION TO SPLASHSCREEN CRASH
I figured out how to fix super monkey ball’s crash on splashscreen, though I don’t know if it will work for everyone. It’s pretty random, actually. What I did was go to international and tap everything to US region, set language to US and it worked fine. I was actually trying to fix I Love Katamari, which kept appearing in Japanese, but I ended up also fixing my Super Monkey Ball as well.
If it works, then share the love.

can someone upload an unmodified version of the mobileinstallation.framework file?
for some reason now when i try to watch a vid online (youtube especially) it asks if i want to download or stream the vid and if i download i cant find it and if i stream it glitches and only sound is played, no video.
im pretty sure this is the modified file i downloaded and installed through the steps to install monkeyball, should i delete a certain file, and will it make downloading and streaming vids normal again? or do i really need to download an unmodified mobileinstallation.framework file from a generous person?
