When the scene was greeted with the Bluedisk firmware yesterday, obviously quite a few of us were pleased to take advantage of this new discovery. Just having the ability to boot many more games on a patch free basis was enough to sway some of us to upgrade, while still others made more tentative decisions. With this release came the subsequent leak of the 4.21 keys used to construct the firmware, so as such it didn’t take long for others to follow suit.

Rogero, famous for his own CFW, is one of the first major players to try this out with his own option built around a similar architecture. However, it should be noted that there are plenty of limitations mixed with these added features. Despite the fact that you can play more games (with the original game disc inserted), it can only be added on 3.55 CFW as a system update, and will not work on downgraded consoles unless your system has been dehashed properly. Not to mention one of the biggest differences is that all of your current 3.55 homebrew (with the exception of multiMAN) will not be functional on this new environment because the applications need to be signed again. If you do however, favor playing more official games and want you network access back without losing eventual homebrew options, this might be a good option for you.

Getting Started

This guide assumes you are already running CFW v3.55 kmeaw or Rogero CEX-3.55 CFW.

Required files:

- Rogero CEX CFW

- Toggle QA

- Condor Updater v3.1

- multiMAN File Manager

Optional files (for downgrading back to v3.55 if needed):

- v4.25 Downgrader

- Rogero CEX-3.55 CFW V3.7

System Preparation

1. Install the Rebug QA_Toggle package

2. Run the “Rebug Toggle QA” from XMB, the screen will go black and you will see

HDD Led activity then if all went fine you will hear one Beep and the PS3 will Restart back to XMB.

3. Next, install Condor Updater.pkg

Custom Firmware Installation

1. Extract and rename the rogero cfw you downloaded to PS3UPDAT.PUP

2. On your USB flash drive create a folder named PS3. Under this folder – create a folder named UPDATE

3. Transfer the PS3UPDAT.PUP file to the UPDATE folder (this should be the path: /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP)

4. In XMB, click on the Condor Updater app to put your PS3 into Recovery Mode.

If you would like to enter recovery mode manually, note the steps below:

How to access Recovery Mode manually:
a. Turn off your PS3.
b. Turn it on and keep Holding The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
c. Once the System has been shutdown, Turn it on again and keep Holding The power button down (you will hear 1 beep first, keep holding) until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
d. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button
e. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
f. The Recovery menu will pop up
g. Last Option #6 is what you must use “System Update”

5. Once the system has booted into recovery, you will see a warning message on the screen

6. Press and hold “Start+Select” for 5 seconds to start the update process

7. Once finished the PS3 will restart into XMB.

Note: If you are on Rogero 4.21 and would like to update to a newer CFW release – simply repeat the steps above with the newer .PUP file. If you run into issues – downgrade to 3.55 (steps below) and then flash the latest CFW.

At this point you may install multiMAN file manager and game away!

Downgrading to v3.55 (optional)

If you run into issues, or would like to go back to CFW 3.55 from Rogero:

1. Download the 4.25 downgrader

2. Rename the downloaded file to “PS3UPDAT.PUP” and put it on your USB (this should be the path: /PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP)

3. Next, go to System Update from XMB and install the 4.25 downgrader CFW using the “Update via Storage Media” option. Once complete, you will be on CFW v3.55 but the system version will still show up as 4.21

4. Install the Rebug QA_Toggle package

5. Run the “Rebug Toggle QA” from XMB, the screen will go black and you will see HDD Led activity then if all went fine you will hear one Beep and the PS3 will Restart back to XMB.

Note: Make sure NOTHING is plugged into the USB areas on your PS3 before running Toggle QA.

6a. Next, put “Rogero CEX-3.55 CFW V3.7″ on your USB (remember to rename to PS3UPDAT.PUP)

6b. Start the PS3 into Recovery Menu (using condor updater or manually) and install the 3.55 CFW

6c. Once the install completes, do the installation one more time (repeat step 6a & 6b)

7. Finally, you can now boot the PS3 into Recovery Menu and install any OFW/CFW 3.55 or a newer CFW

Changing or Upgrading HDD on CFW

1. Download the 4.25 downgrader

2. Rename the downloaded file to “PS3UPDAT.PUP” and put it on your USB. Plug in the USB on your PS3

3. Swap the current HDD with the new HDD, turn the PS3 on & follow the on screen instructions

4. Follow steps 4 – 7 from the downgrading instructions mentioned above

Enjoy & leave us a comment if you found this helpful or have any questions.

So you’ve decided that you want a seedbox, but the companies selling seedboxes are too expensive. It’s actually very easy to make a seedbox yourself and cut out the middleman. All you need is a dedicated server or VPS running CentOS 6 and you can have a seedbox up and running in under 20 minutes.

There are plenty of hosting companies out there, so find the one that’s right for you. Alternatively, if you have an old computer lying around and a good internet connection, you can set up a seedbox in your own house. Just install CentOS 6 on the computer and follow the rest of the instructions in this tutorial.

Once your host sends you your server’s details, you need to connect to your server. In Windows, download PuTTY and fill in the appropriate details. In OS X or *nix systems, open up a terminal and type the following to connect:

$ ssh root@[your server's ip]

Next, follow the steps below:

1) SSH into your VPS/Server using root level access

2) Install wget onto your server. Some clean CentOS 6 install or templates do not include wget. So the following command will install it.

yum install wget

3) Install/update missing or outdated files for your VPS/Server.

yum update

4) Download the transmission script to your VPS/Server (Current Transmission – v2.77)

wget -O install-transmission.sh http://pastie.org/pastes/6604870/download

5) Next, let’s make the downloaded script executable.

chmod u+x install-transmission.sh

6) Now, lets install the script. You will be prompted for a username then password – choose root as your username. Your password can be to your liking. This will be your login for the transmission web interface. After this, the installation of transmission will begin.

Note: This process might take a while depending on your server specs and connection speed.

./install-transmission.sh

7) Once the installation is complete, you can access the Web UI of your SeedBox from the following:

http://[your server ip]:9091
or
http://[your server hostname]:9091

Enjoy!

Tired of paying for coins, feature upgrades and power ups for your iOS apps? In-Appstore solves the problem by giving you unlimited (and free) in-app purchases!

Enabling in-appstore is simple and only takes 4 simple steps:

Logging off your account

Installing a CA certificate

Installing in-appstore certificate

Changing the DNS records

Note, that in-appstore works only when you connected to a Wi-Fi network, not a cellular network.

Let’s begin!

iOS v6 (Jailbreak required):

If you have Cydia – just add new repository:

http://system.in-appstore.com/repo/

and install the package contained in it.

If you do not have Cydia:

1. Login via secure shell to your device (“ssh root@YOUR_DEVICE_IP” on Mac/Linux or use Putty on windows, optional enter “yes” on ssh key confirmation, enter default password “alpine”)
2. Type “nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/saurik.list”
3. Add a line “deb http://system.in-appstore.com/repo/ ./”
4. Type CTRL+X, save file on exit.
5. Type “apt-get update”
6. Type “apt-get install anondev.LocalIAPStore”
7. Respring or reboot your device. You are ready!

iOS v5:

Step 1: Sign out of your Apple ID (Found under Settings -> Store)

Step 2: Install these certificates on your device

First (cacert.pem)

Second (itcert.pem)

The order of installing is very important! Install them in the order seen here.

Step 3: Open any application where you can purchase items within the app. Attempt to buy something but tap “Cancel” when prompted on the “Do you really want to purchase?” window.

Step 4: Open Wi-Fi settings on your device and tap the small blue arrow on your Wi-Fi network. Remove all data from DNS field and set it to any one of the following addresses:

94.228.221.10

91.224.160.136

If you would like to create and share your own DNS, please install DNSMasq Server and configure it with (dnsmasq.conf)

Next, toggle your WiFi (turn it off for a few seconds and then back on).

Step 5: Go to any application and try to buy something! You will see dialog window asks you to Love apple, Click on “LOVE” or “LIKE”!

Note: When prompted to enter credentials for an account, enter any random values for UserID and Password. DO NOT USE YOUR APPLE ID.

How do I revert back?

Step 1 – Uninstall Certificates:

On your iOS device, select Settings.

On the Settings menu, select General.

On the General menu, select Profile.

Beside the current profile, tap the Remove button.

If a Remove Profile confirmation window appears, tap the Remove button.

Step 2 – Clear DNS

Open Wi-Fi settings on your device and tap the small blue arrow on your Wi-Fi network.

Remove all data from DNS field and toggle your WiFi connection (turn it off for a few seconds and then back on)

Step 3 – Sign Out from Apple ID

Click on the listed ID (found under Settings -> Store) and press “Sign Out”.

You may now sign back in with your normal Apple ID.

Backups

Download a backup of all the required files here

DNSMasq Setup

Linux users can automatically pull DNS settings. Simply add the following script to your cron (hourly):

cd /etc
wget http://91.224.160.136/dnsmasq.conf
service dnsmasq reload

That’s all folks! Leave us a comment with your experience!

Enjoy the unlimited shower of coins & upgrades in your games

Garmin GPS systems are great if you don’t know how to find your way to an address but their maps often get outdated in a few years as new infrastructure is developed in your city.

Find the $99 update somewhat of a pinch? Here is a solution for you!

Using this guide you will be able to update your Garmin GPS system to the latest (2013) map data for North America, all you need is a little bit of patience and careful reading. This guide can also be followed to update maps from other countries but you will need to locate the map files of your country on your end.
A GPS device plugged into your PC

FAQ

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN METHOD 1 & 2

Method 1 – To be used if you would like to customize the maps on your unit to specific areas.

Method 2 – To be used if you want the entire map data available on your unit (novice friendly)

WHAT ARE TORRENTS?

Don’t know how to use .torrent files? We won’t judge you (maybe)!

Follow these instructions to get started.

Method 1 (MapSource Install Instructions) – PC Only

Based on feedback from our visitors, we have worked on simplifying this method for an easy install process. The instructions for 2012 MapSource install now look different from previous releases.

The 2013.30 MapID is 2775

Note: The downloaded files contain map source, lane assist full (all areas), and 3d map unlocked full (all areas) in individual compressed archives, so select only what you need, Garmin MobileXT users don’t need the 3d map or the lane assist files.

Once the files have been downloaded, extract them as you will need to choose the appropriate folders based on your choice below.

Choose one of the following options:

Option One (Unlocked Maps)

1. Extract the contents of the torrent you downloaded using 7-Zip or any other unrar-tool

2. Once extracted, run “Mapsource.exe” and create your map

Note: No installation needed, Mapsource will create a folder called “Garmin” on the C:\ Drive. This folder will contain the file “gmapsupp.img” which is the unlocked map file created by your specifications.

Option Two (Unlock using *.UNL file)

1. Copy the folder “\2013.10 Source\City Navigator North America NT 2013.10.gmap\” to “C:\Documents and Settings\(USER)\Application Data\Garmin\Maps”

2. Run the install.exe file from ”\map source 6.15.6.0\install.exe”

3. Launch MapSource and choose the maps that you would like on your device on follow the on screen instructions

4. Use “\garmin map unlocker\unlocker.exe” to generate your maps unlock code. Alternatively, you may also use the Garmin Unlocker provided at the beginning of this guide.

Once completed, if you want to remove Mapsource files from your system:

Delete > C:\Documents and Settings\(USER)\My Documents\My Garmin
Delete > C:\Documents and Settings\(USER)\Application Data\Garmin\Maps

Method 2 (Unlocked IMG) – All Platforms

Use either Part A or Part B depending on your choice:

Part A | Internal Memory

1. Connect your device to the computer.

2. Go into the Nuvi files and backup the file named “gmapprom.img” to your computer.

3. Delete the “gmapprom.img” file from the device. (note: make sure you empty the recycle bin after this step)

4. Copy the unlocked “gmapprom.img” file that you downloaded into the device. If the downloaded file is named something else, rename it to “gmapprom.img” and then put it on your device’s internal memory.

5. Restart your device and check your map info via : Tools>Settings>Map>Map Info.

Part B | SD Card

1. Get a 2GB SD card (OR SDHC if your device supports it) and format it FAT or FAT32

2. Create a folder on the memory card called “Garmin”

3. Copy the downloaded IMG file into the Garmin folder on your SD card.

4. Make sure the IMG file is named “gmapsupp.img” on the SD card.

5. Insert the SD card into your Garmin GPS, and browse to your map information on your Garmin GPS and you should see the new maps selected. This can be found on the device via : Tools>Settings>Map>Map Info. (Note: The SD card must remain in your device if you want to use the maps.)

Why is the file name important?

This must be done because this is not the primary mapset as it is being used from the SD card. The primary mapset is the one on the GPS’s internal memory.

Extra Requested Files (Only works on devices that support this feature)

Saving different maps into different mapset files also allows you to easily replace the map to newer versions in the future. However, if you have a lot of maps that you want to load into your GPS, or you want to store all the maps into a SD card which supports only a single gmapsupp.img, you might need to combine (join) the maps into one mapset file. GMapTool is a tool which allows you to join and/or split maps into mapset files.

Download GMapTool (mirror). It supports multiple platforms:

Windows – GUI and command line

Linux – command line

Mac OS X – command line

Using the GUI interface of GMapTool makes it pretty simple to combine the mapsets.

Firstly, store all the mapset files you wish to combine as different filenames on your PC. It is recommended to store them in the same folder/directory.

Under the Files section of GMapTool, select the maps you want to combine by clicking on Add Files (to select one file at one time) or Add Directories (to select all *.img files in the directory). Note that you can always remove any file in the listing by selecting it and press the Delete button of your keyboard.

When you are done with the mapset selection, continue to the Join section.

Specify the Output File, and key-in the Mapset name of your file to be created. This mapset name will be displayed under each of the map name when you list your maps in Map Info function of your Garmin GPS.

Click the Join all button, and the combined mapset will be created. You can then copy the new mapset file to your Garmin’s internal storage or SD card.

Note that if any of the maps in your mapset file are locked by vendor, you still need the 25 bytes unlock key stored in a *.unl file in the same folder and with the same name as the mapset file where the locked map is stored in. To unlock 2 maps inside the mapset file, put both the keys inside the *.unl file one after another, without space (the file size will be 50 bytes then). To avoid this hassle, you might want to use Garmin Unlocker to permanently unlock the maps before combining them with GMapTool.

Stuck Patches – To force the removal of all patches and themes, use the WebOS Repair Utility on your computer and click Options then Override Compatibility. You can also restore factory settings by using the WebOS Doctor to remove all personal data.

webOS Updates – Before you update to a new webOS, first remove any theme and then any patches you might have installed. Homebrew Apps, including Preware, do not need to be removed before a webOS update.

Congratulations! you can now enjoy the true power of the TouchPad.

[/message_box]

Method 1 (MapSource Install Instructions)

Based on feedback from our visitors, we have worked on simplifying this method for an easy install process. The instructions for 2012 MapSource install now look different from previous releases.

The 2012.10 MapID is 2425 | 2012.20 MapID is 2484 | 2012.30 MapID is 2508 | 2012.40 MapID is 2584

2. Open the folder “…/2012.10 Source/” and run “install.exe”. This will install the maps to: “C:\Documents and Settings\(USER)\Application Data\Garmin\Maps”

3. Once it finishes unlocking all maps, MapSource will automatically open (be sure to wait until command prompt window closes)

4. From the toolbar, select “map tool” (it’s to the left of the magnifying glass with a ‘+’ sign)

5. In the main map window, select the areas you want to transfer to your device. (left click on each area you want to copy to your device, it will turn a pink color signifying it has been selected)

6. Once you have selected all the areas you want copied to your device, go to the options menu and left click on “Transfer”. Scroll down to “Send To Device” and click on it

7. Connect your device to your computer (if you have not already)

8. Click on the button “find device”. Once your device shows up in the select box, choose “Send”.

Option Two (Unlock using *.UNL file)

1. Copy the folder “\2012.10 Source\City Navigator North America NT 2012.10.gmap\” to “C:\Documents and Settings\(USER)\Application Data\Garmin\Maps”

Method 2 (Unlocked IMG)

Usenet is a world-wide distributed discussion system. It consists of a set of “newsgroups” with names that are classified hierarchically by subject. ”Articles” or “messages” are “posted” to these newsgroups by people on computers with the appropriate software — these articles are then broadcast to other interconnected computer systems via a wide variety of networks. Some newsgroups are “moderated”; in these newsgroups, the articles are first sent to a moderator for approval before appearing in the newsgroup.

Well that’s the technical definition. Let’s simplify things a little to suit your needs!

To enjoy everything the newsgroups have to offer, you need three essential things:

A good newsgroup server - This is where your newsreader will download the files from.

A good newsgroup reader - This is the program you will use to download from the newsgroups.

Access to an indexing site - This is where you will browse or search for things to download from the newsgroups (similar to a torrent site).

An important note at this stage is to remember that Usenet is a premium service that gives you uninterrupted download access to all available files (your only limitation is the download speed of your ISP). This is the reason why all good Usenet services are paid. However, there are a lot of good affordable options nowadays. Here are the best options that we recommend:

ThunderNews

NewsDemon

Usenet-News

AstraWeb

But wait! Before you jump the gun and buy a service, let’s setup the basics and understand your needs.

Setting up your Newsreader

One of the best free, open source and cross platform newsreaders we have come across is SABnzbd. In the developer’s own words: it’s totally free, incredibly easy to use, and works practically everywhere. Simply download and install the program on your computer and it will automatically download, unzip/rar and fix files for you.

Also, during the install process, Sabnzbd will ask you for your newsgroup server details. On this page, enter the server information provided by your news host. If you are using SSL (recommended), be sure to tick the SSL checkbox. Once you’ve entered your server details, click the “Test Server” button to determine if the connection works.

Once this is setup, it works much like any torrent program. You download the “.nzb” file from the indexing site of your choice (this is very similar to a torrent file). Once you launch this file, Sabnzbd will start your chosen download within seconds!

There are alternatives to Sabnzbd like alt.binz and Grabit but these might not be as simple and easy to use as our recommendation. Feel free to explore around though!

Which Newsgroup Server to Choose?

The news server is where all the information you want is located, and it is very important that you subscribe to one that suits your needs. Thankfully, there are many choices! But there are several things to consider before you start buying.

Binary Retention

Maintaining all of the messages on the server that contain files takes up a tremendous amount of space. This leads us to a term you should get to understand: retention. Retention refers to the amount of time a post or file remains on a news server before its deleted. A popular newsgroup with frequent posts would have a shorter retention period than a less popular newsgroup with few posts. As the cost of hardware and server capacity dwindled, most news servers now have a blanket retention policy for all the newsgroups they carry; if the retention is 800 days in one newsgroup, chances are it will be the same for the rest of the newsgroups the news server carries.

As a basic rule of thumb: the longer the retention the better!

Number of Connections

Connections are another critical feature and refer to the amount of simultaneous processes that can take place between a news server and a news reader. The more processes that can take place, at least to a point, the faster and more efficient your download will be.

Every Usenet service provider caps the number of simultaneous connections you can make at a single time through your account. This is relevant for a couple of reasons. First, most of the files you’ll download are split into parts and you may want to download those parts concurrently, as this can often be faster than downloading one file at a time. The number of connections you pay for is directly related to the number of files you can download at a given time. Also, if you want to use your account from different locations at the same time or share your account with someone else, you can split up the number of connections between locations so only one account is needed.Generally, no matter what type of account you choose, you’ll end up with a sufficient number of connections–if not more than you’ll ever need.

Security

Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption, is another feature that has become popular. This is the same kind of protection that is used when you pay your bills or perform online banking. While this option is especially significant for uploaders, it helps protect downloaders as well – but to an extent. SSL encryption helps conceal the contents of the data stream between the news server and the end user.

In most cases SSL and other security options don’t cost extra but may be something you want to consider. If you want to take any extra measures to encrypt the data moving between your Usenet service provider and you, make sure you take a look at what each provider offers you, as various security options are available with most.

Quota – Monthly vs. Block

Finally, we have the types of accounts offered. There are generally two types of accounts you can subscribe to based on your usage.

Monthly accounts have a regular billing cycle and assign you an allowance of download every month. For example, if you sign up for a monthly 15GB plan; you have a 15GB download limit per month which is automatically renewed every month. However, nowadays many providers offer unlimited download accounts at competitive rates so it is best to keep checking back on the links we provided in this guide for the best deals with the best providers.

Block accounts have a one time fee and allow you to buy a chunk of download allowance without any expiry. So, if you purchase a 100GB block from one of the providers, you can use it at any time (months/years) until you use up the 100GB download limit. This is a great option for people who do not download a lot of material every month.

Easy Usenet Automation Software

Here is a list of software that will enhance your Usenet experience:

SickBeard - The ultimate PVR application that downloads and manages your TV shows. Automatically finds new and old episodes.

CouchPotato - Allows you to keep a “movies I want” list and will search for NZBs of these movies every X hours.

Know about any other software? Leave it in the comments and we might add it in this list!

Hope this helps answer a lot of questions!

We always love to see your comments! So drop us a line if you have any questions or found this helpful

Having a PS3 (fat or slim) running firmware v3.55 or lower can be a boon for our resident haksters, especially when you can run game backups. The following guide will cover all the basics of getting you up and running on a jailbroken PS3 and then playing your backed up or downloaded games with ease.

Section 1 – Which firmware to choose?

Firstly you need to understand that there is no “best firmware”. What is best for you depends on what it is you want to do on your PS3. Below is a list of the most popular custom firmware’s (CFW) and what they do:

1. Geohot CFW

Geohot CFW has the ability to launch signed homebrew using geo and f0f tools, it doesn’t have any kind of patching, therefore lv2 is unpatched not allowing you to run backups.

Summary:

No backup managers.

Only signed homebrew.

2. Wutangrza CFW

This CFW came after Geohots CFW, the intention was to add peek and poke to lv2 (to allow for backup games). Flukes found that lv1 controlled lv2 and provided the instructions to build the firmware. Wutangrza followed his instructions to build the firmware. This allowed the added improvement of peek and poke.

Summary:

Backup managers working (Using kmeaw patch).

Only signed homebrew.

Peek and poke was added to lv2

3. Waninkoko CFW

This release had a hard patched lv2 without checking lv1 first, which lead to a massive brick in the last days, but some of the machines survived. This CFW had peek and poke integrated and makes use of syscall 36 that allows the use of backup managers.

Summary:

Backup managers working.

Launch signed homebrew.

Peek and poke and syscall 36 added.

High percentage of bricks.

4. Kmeaw CFW

A day after the release of Wutangrza CFW, came Kmeaw with PL3 implementation into a little PKG, it would inject pl3 into the PS3 memory so people using Wutangrza CFW could start using syscall 36 and using backup managers. Kmeaw not only released this little package, but also released his own CFW with PL3 implemented, that allows for backup managers Peek and poke and all the good stuff. This would have to be our favourite out of the four.

Summary:

Backup managers working.

Launch signed homebrew.

Peek and poke added as well as syscall 36

No bricks and most compatible

Section 2 – Jailbreak your PS3

First and foremost, make sure you are running firmware 3.55 or lower. If you have any other version higher than 3.55 then you are out of luck as there is no way to safely downgrade to 3.55 at the moment.

Before you begin, you will need the following:

PS3 OFW 3.55

kmeaw CFW 3.55 Patched PUP

A backup manager (We recommend: multiMAN or Gaia)

A USB flash drive (Minimum 1GB in size and formatted as FAT32)

Now let’s get started:

First, extract the PS3 OFW 3.55 your downloaded to your desktop. You should have a file named “PS3UPDAT.PUP”.

Plug in your USB flash drive to your computer. Inside the flash drive create a folder called “PS3”.

Now, inside the PS3 folder you just created, make a folder called “UPDATE”.

Next, transfer the PS3UPDAT.PUP you extracted in step 1 into this UPDATE folder on the USB flash drive.

Head on over to your PS3 and plug in your USB flash drive. In the PS3 menu, got to Settings > System Update > Update via Storage Media

The PS3 should detect the firmware on your USB flash drive and prompt you for the update. Follow the on screen instructions and run the update.

Delete the PS3UPDAT.PUP file from your USB flash drive and desktop.

You should now be running on a stock PS3 v3.55. Next we install the custom firmware:

On your computer, extract the kmeaw CFW you downloaded to your desktop. You should have a file named “PS3UPDAT.PUP”.

Transfer the PS3UPDAT.PUP you extracted into this UPDATE folder on the USB flash drive.

Head on over to your PS3 and plug in your USB flash drive. In the PS3 menu, got to Settings > System Update > Update via Storage Media.

The PS3 should detect the firmware on your USB flash drive and prompt you for the update. Follow the on screen instructions and run the update.

Delete the PS3UPDAT.PUP file from your USB flash drive and desktop.

You should now be running on the kmeaw jailbroken custom firmware v3.55.

Section 3 – Install a Backup Manager

We must now install a backup manager app on your PS3 so that you can play your downloaded or backed up games.

Download your favourite backup manager

Extract the “filename.pkg” file onto your desktop

Plug in your USB flash drive and transfer the “.pkg” file into the root or main area of your flash drive.

Head on over to your PS3 and plug in your USB flash drive. Under the Games menu, you will see a folder called “Install Package Files”. Press X on this folder and your backup manager package should be listed.

Press X on your controller to start the installation of the backup manager.

Once installed, you should be able to FTP into your PS3 and transfer any game to the “GAMES” directory. Once transferred, these games can be launched using the backup manager you have installed.

Hope this guide helped clarify how to jailbreak and play backed up or downloaded games on your PS3.

Drop us a line if you found this helpful!

After releasing PS3 root keys publicly this week, followed by a video showing homebrew running on firmware 3.55, Geohot has now released Jailbreak for PlayStation 3 firmware 3.55 but with virtually no instructions.

Here is a step by step guide to help you with the jailbreak. We have also included a sub-guide showing how to install homebrew packages once your device is Jailbroken. The PS3 Jailbreak is 100% free and very simple to apply using this guide. Do not get scammed by paying for this jailbreak in any form.

To Jailbreak PS3 on 3.55

1. Plug a USB stick into your computer
2. Create a folder in the root of the USB stick called PS3
3. Create a folder inside the PS3 folder called UPDATE
4. Download the Jailbreak
5. Unzip Jailbreak.zip and extract the PS3UPDAT.PUP file
6. Move PS3UPDAT.PUP to the directory UPDATE that you just created on the USB stick
7. Plug the USB stick into your PS3
8. Navigate to Settings Tab
9. Choose System Update
10. Choose Update via Storage Media
11. It will say it found Version 3.55-jb
12. Choose OK
13. Accept Conditions and Install Update
14. After less than a minute, your PS3 will update, beep 4 times then shut down.
15. Power up your PS3 (You will have to do it on the console and not by the controller)
16. Your PS3 is now jailbroken!

To Install Packages

1. Plug your USB stick into your computer
2. Drop the package file into the root of the USB stick
3. Plug your USB stick into your PS3
4. Navigate to the Game Tab
5. Choose Install Package Files
6. Select the filename.pkg
7. After it installs you will find the package installed below the Install Package Files folder

Now you just need to wait for more awesome packages (or apps) to be created by the PS3 community!

Enjoy.
